![]() ![]() This is only compounded by the now widespread use of all aluminum engines and the MUCH tighter thermal and chemical tolerances that come with them. Would modding your car require a different coolant/water mix?Ĭoolant chemistries have gotten far more sophisticated in the last ten years, and are particularly fragile anymore. Since I'm on the coolant subject, what would be the differences and or advantages/disadvantages of changing the ratio if any? For example putting in a 60/40 or 70/30 Coolant/Water mix? Hopefully when I leave work today all will be fine again. Over lunch I decided to go out and buy some coolant (Prestone) and mixed it 50/50 with water (Evian). And my service tech definately knows I have an ECU upgrade too. It says in the owners manual that coolant should not have to be added or changed. It's going in next week for the 7500 mile service and has 7100 miles on it right now. I've never had any real problems with the car before. I drove it to work about 5 miles away, made my shifts around 3500-4000 RPM, watched the temp gauge, and everything seemed ok. Once the RPMs dropped (as they normally do) the message cleared. The car started as usual idling around 2000 RPM for a few seconds then dropping down just below 1000RPM. I turn the engine on and get the same message immediately. Ok, wierd, so I decide to try and start her up again. I checked the upper hose for leaks as well as underneath the car. Opened up the hood and saw that the fluid in the coolant reservoir was right at the "Min" line. Ok at this point I immediately shut it off and begin to panic. This morning I start my '05 S60R and Immediately I see a display message that says "Coolant Level Low, Stop Engine". ![]() Hopefully all you smart enlightened individuals may be able to comment on this: Hi all, I might have a problem but I don't know for sure. ![]()
